Individual Psychological Counselling

Introduction

My name is Sára Laura Koó, and I am a licensed psychologist. I obtained my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Sociology from London Metropolitan University, and my Master’s degree in Work and Organizational Psychology from Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest. Throughout my studies, I gained experience in various areas of psychology, which have contributed to developing an open, accepting, and client-centred approach in my work.

I believe that every client arrives with a unique story, personal strengths, and individual challenges. In psychological counselling, I consider it important to create space for both deeper self-exploration and the practical difficulties of everyday life. While understanding and processing past experiences can be an important part of the process, addressing current challenges and finding ways to navigate daily life are equally essential.

A safe space for reflection, personal growth and understanding yourself

Throughout our lives, we all encounter periods when finding the next step on our own can feel challenging. Psychological counselling offers an opportunity to explore the questions and difficulties that affect your everyday life in a supportive, accepting, and non-judgmental environment. Together, we can work towards a deeper understanding of yourself and your experiences.

What I can help with

Psychological counselling can provide support in a wide range of life situations, including:

  • self-understanding and personal growth

  • feeling stuck or facing life transitions

  • relationship and family difficulties

  • challenges related to self-confidence and self-esteem

  • loss, grief, and adjustment difficulties

  • decision-making challenges

  • workplace difficulties and burnout prevention

If you are unsure whether your concerns could benefit from psychological counselling, feel free to get in touch, and we can discuss how I may be able to support you.

Professional interests

Life experiences do not affect us solely through the events themselves, but also through the ways in which we remember, interpret, and integrate them into our personal narratives. The same event can be experienced very differently by different people, shaping their understanding of themselves, others, and the world around them over time.

Research, memory, and generations

Alongside my therapy practice, I am also involved in research. My academic interests focus on how family histories, social changes, and historical experiences are reflected in the lives of subsequent generations.

I am particularly interested in intergenerational processes, family narratives, and the psychological and social role of memory. I believe that the past is not only a collection of historical events, but something that continues to shape our everyday relationships, choices, and the way we understand ourselves.

For me, a research-oriented perspective is closely connected to psychological practice. It allows me to approach each person’s story with curiosity, openness, and an understanding of the broader contexts that shape our experiences.

Dementia and human dignity

Another important area of my professional interest is the psychology of dementia and age-related cognitive decline.

Dementia is not only a medical diagnosis but also a significant life transition for the person affected and their family. I believe it is important to approach dementia not only through the lens of loss, but also by focusing on preserving the dignity, identity, and relationships of those living with the condition.

It is equally important to recognise that support is not only needed by people living with dementia, but also by their family members and caregivers. Their role is often central in adapting to the changes brought by the condition, and they also deserve understanding, support, and a space to process their own experiences.
